Breaking in a baseball fielding glove Do not follow the traditional way of placing two baseballs in a glove and rubber band around the glove. The glove for young players needs to form an large opening so they have a larger area to catch and transfer the ball to their throwing hand. To break your glove in properly turn your glove inside out and leave it that way when not using it. To maintain the gloves leather use shaving cream with lanolin in it and it will keep the leather moist. Make sure you use the shaving cream where the laces meet the holes, that is the area which breaks first.
Keeping your glove in good shape
Keep your glove laces tight and coaches should instruct players not to throw their glove on the ground when they come back into the dugout. Do what the pros do, place their cap in their glove and place them on the bench. That way when you go out to the field they are together in one area. You then will not have as many kids asking "Coach where is my glove" Answer should be "I do not know since its not mine I am not keeping an eye on it" Teach players to be responsible in knowing where there glove is at all times and maintaining it so it will last longer. Your fielding glove is an extension of your hand, where it as much as possible.
