About Highlands Little League

Highlands Little League is based in North Vancouver, offering league play and post-season high-performance opportunities for 4-16 year-olds. Established in 1959, Highlands is one of the oldest baseball organizations on the North Shore. The association plays at Delbrook, Chris Zeuhlke Memorial and Sowden parks. Teams play in the spring, summer and fall.

Highlands Little League athletes build confidence, strengthen friendships and belong to a growing community of families that value sport and the many benefits it brings.

Highlands is proud to be home of the North Shore Challengers – a division of Baseball BC providing opportunities for children with cognitive or physical disabilities to enjoy the benefits of baseball participation.

HLL Regular Season Divisions

T/Farm Ball: Ages 4-7

Gives children and their parents an introductory experience to baseball by creating a safe, caring, and fun environment as they learn the basics of the game. As children advance from T-Ball to Farm Ball, a more authentic game experience is introduced as teams move from tee hitting to soft toss and underhand pitching.

· Basic fundamentals

· Hitting from tee and underhand toss

· Throwing and catching

· Mini games

2 sessions each week

A Ball: Ages 7-8

Focused on development of core baseball skills – and fun! Kids move from hitting underhand pitches to a pitching machine and good baseball habits are practiced. A more competitive environment develops as outs are made in the field and strike outs at the plate. Positional play and situational decision making is introduced. Teams are created, allowing school groups and friends to play together.

· Hitting pitching machine

· Team play and etiquette

1-2 games, 1 practice each week

AA Ball: Ages 8-10

This competitive level of play continues skill development and introduces specific position play. All players get the chance to start pitching and hitting from pitches. Players attend evaluations and teams are selected through a draft process where skills and friendships are taken into account to form evenly-skilled teams.

· Pitching

· Stealing between 2nd and 3rd

· Positional play and decision making

2 games and 1-2 practices each week

AAA Ball: Ages 9-11

Continues skill development from AA Ball and begins to build player skills in specific positions including pitcher, catcher, infielders and outfielders. Game play is competitive. Players attend evaluations and teams are selected through a draft process where skills are taken into account to form evenly-skilled teams.

· Pitching

· Stealing all bases

· Positional play and decision making

As many as 3 games and 3 practices each week

Majors: Ages 11-12

This highly-competitive division is for 10, 11 & 12 year-old players whose skill level is at the top of their age group. Player assignments are made on the basis of player evaluations and the coaches' draft selections.

Games are scheduled to interlock with all District 5 adjoining Little Leagues.

· Position-specific skill building

· Situational knowledge and decision making

· Hitting power, pitching speed

As many as 3 games and 3 practices each week

Juniors: Ages 13-14

Teams participate in a league that includes other North Shore Little Leagues. Games are scheduled by District 5.

Seniors: Ages 15-16

Teams participate in a league that includes other Lower Mainland District Leagues. Games are scheduled by District 5.
